Chingola: Jacob, Pepper, and Joan at 61 -7th Street

This was a photo where we lived in Chingola for 9 years.  Pepper and Jacob attended the Sacred Heart Convent School.  Then Pepper went to the Rift Valley Academy in Kenya, and from there went to Stony Brook Prep School on Long Island, NY.  Jacob went to Sakeji School and then went to Treverton in Mooi River, South Africa.

China-sitting with a new acquaintance

I met this lovely young lady who was working at a local school. Our team worked at the school for a week.  I was assigned to teaching English with a young gentleman from Noe Cheeley’s home church in Hawaii.  It was a lovely experience as the students were so receptive, and eager to learn more English.  I taught the basics along with poems and singing of many popular American songs.

Bill and Joan Hong Kong

What a fun time Bill and I had in Hong Kong with our sons, Pepper and Jacob in the seventies.  It was during the time at the end of a 2 year contract when Bill was working as an engineer at the Nchanga Consolidated Copper Mines in Chingola, Zambia.  I was teaching at the Sacred Heart Convent School so I was able to have the time off between terms that coincided with Bill’s holiday time at his work.  A missionary from South Carolina introduced us to a friend of hers from the states and he took all four of us out to dinner at a unique Chinese restaurant.
